The Takapuna Worlds 2008 will run from early January to the end of March 2008 and will consist of four principal World Championships: RS:X Boards (Mens and Womens) 10th to 20th January 2008 ; TORNADO Catamarans (Open and Youth) 22nd February to 1st March 2008; LASER RADIALS (Women) 13th to 20th March 2008; LASER RADIALS (Men and Youth); 22nd to 29th March 2008. The first three will be 2008 Olympic qualifying events - the last chance for some countries prior to 2008 Beijing Olympics. International and local media will be heavily involved. Over 40 countries represented, over 550 boats and over 620 competitors involved throughout the combined contests.

Sarah Steyaert (FRA) wins Womens Laser Radials. Controversy played a major part in here win as the World Championship leader, Xu Lijia (CHN) had the series in the bag after the ninth and penultimate race, but she was penalised by the on the water judges for pumping.
